SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP

BABC's Social Skills Group offers a wide range of skills development from learning how to greet a person they want to start a conversation with, to learning how to keep a conversation going, and how to take turns while speaking-these are subtle but extremely important aspects of communication. Our Social Skills Group program is individualized to each group. We focus on healthy and positive interaction among each child with typical peer volunteers (when available) and one-on-one Therapist. The curriculum within each Social Skills Group is developed to match the ability of each child and group. BABC's Social Skills Group fosters individualized attention within a social setting so that each child receives 1:1 attention.

Our Social Skills Group Focuses On:

  • Provide structure and predictability
  • Break down abstract social concepts into concrete actions
  • Work in pairs or groups with cooperation and collaboration
  • Provide multiple and varied learning opportunities
  • Foster self-awareness and self-esteem
  • Provide opportunities to practice skills beyond the group in real life settings
  • Play Skills – Taking turns in games or sharing toys
  • Conversation Skills – Choosing what to talk about or what body language to use
  • Emotional Skills – Managing emotions and understanding how others feel
  • Problem-solving Skills – Dealing with conflict or making decisions in social situations
  • Social Constructs – Learn concept such as holidays, days-of-the-week, social events and day-to-day activities
