OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational therapy utilizes evidence-based interventions and strategies. Occupational therapy focuses on the underlying skills to be successful at school, home, and in the community, including: fine motor skills, gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, bilateral coordination, sensory processing, attention-to-task, regulation skills, emotional regulation, self-care skills, feeding skills, executive functioning skills, and visual processing skills.

Our Occupational Therapists work to promote, maintain, and develop the skills needed across all setting to promoted:

  • Self-Care (e.g., dressing, eating a meal, managing toileting needs and managing personal hygiene)
  • Productivity (e.g., emotional regulation, levels of alertness, participation, hand writing and organizational skills)
  • Leisure (e.g, socializing with friends, belonging to a group, participating in hobbies/play and motor skills).
  • Conduct a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and create written goals for treatment
  • Offer one-on-one treatment in a sensory-rich setting
  • Provide an intensive treatment program that encourages family members to participate

Enhancing Sensory Integration

Many individuals experience challenges in processing sensory information. Occupational Therapists help develop strategies to manage sensory sensitivities and regulate their responses to sensory stimuli. Through sensory integration techniques and the implementation of a sensory diet, Occupational Therapy can help individuals engage with their environment.

Developing Fine Motor Skills

Occupational Therapy targets the development and refinement of fine motor skills, which are essential for daily activities. By engaging in purposeful activities and providing specialized interventions, Occupational Therapists support the improvement of fine motor skills and coordination. Another important aspect of Occupational Therapy is focusing on enhancing self-care skills, activities of daily living, promoting self-care skills, grooming, and meal preparation.
